Wolves 01 win first match at Regionals

The 01 Wolves team started off their weekend right by beating KC Fusion Academy by a score of 7-0. Caleb Sexton started the scoring when he intercepted a pass and slotted a left footed shot past the keeper. Charlie Sharp would score another off of a beautifully designed corner to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead at half. Despite a slow start, the Wolves were able to pour it on in the second half, managing to score another five goals. Charlie Sharp started the scoring off of a Justin Wojcik counter-attack assist. Other goal scorers include Justin himself (x2), and Saeid Jannoun. Charlie Sharp finished the game with a hat trick. The boys look to take a commanding lead over the group with a win over Team Challenger FC tomorrow.

SAGINAW, Mich. (June 21, 2019) — More than 220 teams, including three defending US Youth Soccer National Champions, kicked off the 2019 US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championships, presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods, Friday at the Saginaw Township Soccer Complex in Saginaw, Mich.

Teams in the 13U-19U age groups from all over the Midwest took the field with the goal of taking the next step toward claiming the coveted US Youth Soccer National Championship in their respective age group.

The 2019 US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championships feature 224 of the top boys and girls teams from the 14 State Associations that make up the US Youth Soccer Midwest Region, as well as Pennsylvania West teams who qualified through US Youth Soccer Great Lakes Conference play. Preliminary games will be held June 21-23, with semifinals on June 25 and finals taking place June 26.

Nine defending Midwest Regional Champions are competing this week in Saginaw, and the challengers wasted little time in signaling it won’t be easy to repeat. Friday’s action saw just three of the nine defending champions come away with wins.

Regional winners of the 13U through 19U age groups earn a berth to the 2019 US Youth Soccer National Championships, which will be played July 22-28 at the Overland Park Soccer Complex in Overland Park, Kan.
