KENOSHA, Wisc. – Calvin exploded for a season-high seven goals in gaining a 7-0 shutout victory over Greenville.
Saturday’s match was played on the campus of Carthage College and featured a rematch of a 2018 First Round NCAA III Tournament contest.
Calvin (8-1-0) led 1-0 at halftime and then erupted for six goals in a span of 16 minutes early in the second half.
Sophomore Sam Twigg (Auckland, New Zealand) scored three of the goals to collect his first collegiate hat trick. Senior Dillon Weldy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a goal and two assists. Senior Ian Adams (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) also had a goal and two assists.
Senior Chris Morrish (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School) had a pair of saves to record his third shutout victory of the season.
Calvin outshot Greenville 19-8 including 12-3 in the second half.
COACHES COMMENT: “It was another tale of two halves,” said Calvin men’s soccer coach Ryan Souders. “Credit the guys for turning things around in the second half. It was good to punch in a few tonight. We’ll enjoy some rest and need to turn around quickly against an exceptionally talented University of Chicago side next week.”
NEXT UP: Calvin will host sixth-ranked Chicago on September 25 at 5:30 p.m. The game will feature a rematch of the 2018 NCAA III Tournament National Semifinals.
