State Champs! top 100 Michigan girls soccer players, top 10 goalkeepers for 2019
Congratulations to our Hawks High School Players!!
For the second straight school year, a portion of the talented high school-aged girls soccer players are suiting up for one of the three Michigan-based U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy programs (Nationals Union, Midwest United FC or Michigan Jaguars) or Elite Clubs National League 10-month showcase teams (Michigan Hawks) and not suiting up for their respective high schools.
While that has had an overall effect on the high school game in Michigan, mainly in terms of some stacked all-star-type prep programs, there is still a deep well of standouts playing the beautiful game on the prep level, including players that have signed, committed or are being actively recruited by NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III or NAIA college programs.
Michigan has always been known for its plethora of soccer talent and many stars will again be making headlines for high schools from all corners of the state this spring.
So who are the cream of the crop? More than 200 high school and club coaches across the state submitted names over the past two months and the State Champs Network will showcase them here in our sixth annual Top Girls Soccer Players List for 2019:
TOP FIELD PLAYERS
1. DANIELLE WOLFE, Walled Lake Northern Sr. F: A future four-time All-State performer and three-year All-State First Team honoree, Wolfe does things on the soccer pitch that few high school girls can do. Headed to the University of Michigan, Wolfe has been drawing comparisons to some of the past Miss Soccer and Dream Team players that went on to have solid college careers. She has been a nightmare for opposing teams to mark dating back to the first time she stepped onto the prep pitch.
2. JANSEN EICHENLAUB, Birmingham Marian Sr. F: Even with an injury, Eichenlaub was hard to slow down last season. The soccer/track star is headed to Virginia for soccer, and the two-time All-State Dream Team performer and pure goal scorer could join elite company if she leads the Mustangs to a third straight D-2 title. She was Gatorade Player of the Year last year behind 33 goals, 11 assists, six hat tricks and nine game-winning goals. Plays club for Vardar ECNL.
3. REAGAN WISSER, Richland Gull Lake Sr. F: Perhaps Western Michigan’s top hopeful for Miss Soccer, Wisser has had a fine career and led the Blue Devils to the D-2 Final Four last year and just one loss. Last season she exploded for 35 goals and 17 assists despite seeing double teams to earn All-State Dream Team and D-2 All-State First Team honors. Also earning NHSSCA All-America status, Wisser has signed with Western Michigan and has also enjoyed a noteworthy tour on the club side playing for the Kalamazoo Kingdom.
4. PAIGE WEBBER, Grand Blanc Sr. F: Headed to Michigan State, perhaps Webber can finally lead the Bobcats to the D-1 promised land and the school’s first state title. Webber has played on back-to-back state runner-up teams. During her prep career, the Nationals Union club product has scorched nets for 75 goals and 42 assists for a program that does not play a powder-puff schedule. Last year she was All-State Dream Team and Division 1 All-State First Team. A high-energy player, Webber is simply a tough assignment to mark because she has a knack for the goal.
5. KATE FACE, Marshall Sr. M/F: Face has helped land Marshall on the state map and has also had a fine career entering her senior year. Also a product of the the club Kalamazoo Kingdom on circuit who helped her team to the U-18 State Cap last October, Face has been called “fearless” and “dynamic” by coaches in her area. Committed to Indiana State, Face had collected 73 goals and 30 assists for her career as of early April and was All-State Second Team as a freshman, All-State First Team Division 2 as a sophomore and junior and All-State Dream Team last year as well. She is the two-time reigning Interstate 8 Athletic Conference MVP.
6. ALANA RICHMOND, Portage Central Sr. F/M: A former ODP national pool player, Richmond is part of a deep senior class in the state playing prep soccer and yet another player in the Miss Soccer and Dream Team discussion. She has starred for a team that has been a mainstay in the D-1 Top 20 the past three years. Another Western Michigan signee and Midwest United FC standout, Richmond is equally effective scoring as setting up teammates. She had 19 goals and 16 assists last season and earned All-State First Team status.
7. KRISTIN BOOS, Sterling Heights Summit Home School Sr. M/F: Two years ago following her sophomore year, Boos had a tryout in England with the Tottenham Hotspurs Academy of the English Football Association Women’s Super League. Despite her pedigree and reputation, she is nowhere to be found on any of the All-State teams the past three years despite carrying the label as one of the state’s best overall soccer talents. With over 100 career goals, the FC United club star and DePaul signee has aided her home school team to the WMCHSAA State Cup titles the past three years and to the NCHSAA national tournaments. Summit will again play several MHSAA D-2, D-3 and D-4 programs as an independent during the regular season and Boos will again be a marked player in each game.
8. ALLYSON CHILDERS, Grand Blanc Sr. M: Playing for a team that has been loaded with D-I and D-II college recruits the past few years, perhaps Childers is somewhat underrated. She has aided her team to three straight D-1 district crowns, two straight regional titles and two state runner-up finishes. Also a Nationals Union product who has signed with Michigan State, Childers is the glue to the Grand Blanc attack and defense as a holding center midfielder. She might not have the stats, but the All-State Third Team selection last year has developed a fine reputation on pitch.
9. CHLOE WOODBECK, Royal Oak Shrine Catholic Sr. D/M: Woodbeck’s story is that she has never played high school soccer until this year, opting to compete for the Michigan Hawks in either ECNL or Developmental Academy leagues the past three years. Also a standout track and field athlete, Woodbeck is playing soccer and running track for Shrine as well as weight training in preparation for her college soccer career at Purdue. At the prep level, she’s good enough to play all over the field for a team that will be serious contenders for a D-4 state crown. Fast, skilled, athletic and with a high soccer IQ.
10. KENNEDY WHITE, Plymouth Sr. F/M: A recent signee by Bowling Green, White has scored over 20 goals each of the past two years coming out of a loaded KLAA. She has earned D-1 All-State First Team honors the past two years and is always a dangerous scoring threat whenever she touches the ball.
THE NEXT 48 FIELD PLAYERS
(Listed Alphabetically)
JESSE BANDYK, Novi Sr. M/F: The engine in the middle for the Wildcats, Bandyk earned D-1 All-State First Team accolades last year after All-State Third Team as a sophomore. An unselfish field general who had 24 goals and 29 assists the past three years despite playing a rugged schedule, Bandyk will play for Division II nationally-ranked Ferris State. Also suiting for the Michigan Jaguars-Green club team, Bandyk owns a State Cup title and runner-up showing on her impressive resume.
KENNEDY BEARDEN, Birmingham Detroit Country Day Sr. F: Country Day’s top offensive threat last season, Bearden displays explosive speed and excellent finishing capabilities as her 41 goals last season indicates. Headed to NCAA Division II national powerhouse Grand Valley State, Bearden was D-3 All-State First Team last year. She excels on the club circuit with Vardar ECNL.
KAYLA BEEBE, Kalamazoo Christian Sr. F/M: Also hailing from the Kalamazoo Kingdom on the club side, Beebe is one of the top small-school prospects in the state and a would-be steal for colleges. She is the defensive focal point for opposing team’s schemes both as a feared striker and set-up player who makes others around her better. She led her team to back-to-back D-4 state runner-up finishes and earned All-State First Team accolades the past two years. She collected 19 goals with nine assists last year.
KENDRA BROWN, DeWitt Jr. M: One of the leaders in the midfield of a loaded offense, Brown is a great distributor of the ball. Earning D-2 All-State First Team status last season, expect Brown to continue to rise her stock in the recruiting circles and lead DeWitt into contention again this season.
REGAN COXON, Lowell Sr. F: Coxon is highly athletic and will play soccer and basketball at Division II Dominican University next year. On the high school pitch, she has done some serious damage as one of the state’s better forwards. Named D-2 All-State First Team last year along being a two-time O-K Conference White Division and Al-District and All-Region player, Coxon collected 29 goals and 13 assists. She was also named the West Michigan High School Player of the Year last spring. Coxon is great in the air, hurls throw-ins 35-plus yards and can finish from distance, close range and on restarts.
LAUREN DEBEAU, Utica Eisenhower Sr. F: When she returns from injury in late April, DeBeau will help take a already loaded team to higher levels. She was named D-1 All-State First Team last year and has helped lead the Eagles to three straight MAC Red Division titles and consistent top-15 ranking. Known for her unselfish play, last year DeBeau struck for 20 goals with 16 assists and has signed with Central Michigan University. She plays club ball for Vardar ECNL.
LEXI DEKAM, Grandville Sr. M: Dekam opted to remain with the Grandville program despite interest from the Developmental Academy system. She is another playmaker in the middle of the field and always capable of making things happen for the Bulldogs. She was D-1 All-State Second Team last year and recently inked with D-II Davenport.
ELYSE DESCHRYVER, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern Jr. M/F: DeSchryver was listed on the Midwest United FC Academy roster but opted to come back to her high school team, which has reached the D-2 state title game the past two years. Has multiple D-I offers from around the Midwest. Garnered All-State Third Team accolades last season following 19 goals and three assists, including six goals in the postseason against fellow state-ranked teams.
AVERY FENCHEL, Novi Jr. F: One of the state’s better juniors, Fenchel is a proven winner on both the high school and club side and has a knack for scoring big goals at clutch times. She was the leading scorer as a freshman and sophomore years at Novi, helping the Wildcats win a D-1 state title in 2018. With the Michigan Jaguars, she won a State Cup title in 2017 and helped lead her team to the semifinals last October. She scored the goal in last year’s prep title game over Grand Blanc and has already committed to D-I Ball State University.
MAISON FENECH, Williamston Sr. F: On track to be a four-time all-state athlete, Fenech has scored 20-plus goals the past two years for the D-3 Hornets. She was named to the All-State First Team last season, as she has garnered the reputation as being a difference-maker in big games. Fenech was also a starter for the Michigan Jaguars-Green that captured a State Cup title last October.
ELIZABETH FURGASON, Haslett Sr. M/F: One of the top players in the Lansing area, Furgason is exceptionally quick and has the ability to finish against top-tier teams. Named to the D-2 All-State Second Team last year, Furgason also plays club soccer with the Michigan Jaguars and has couple state cup titles on her resume there as well.
SKYLA GEBAUER, Troy Athens Sr. M: After earning D-1 All-State Honorable Mention honors two years ago, Gebauer spent last season with the Nationals Union Academy. This season the Wisconsin-Milwaukee signee is back as one of Red Hawks’ key parts in their attack plans.
ITALA GEMELLI, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep Jr. F: Heavily recruited by several D-I schools, Gemelli recently committed to the University of Dayton. A standout on her Vardar ECNL club team, Gemelli missed half of last season but still found time to score 13 goals with six assists and earn D-2 All-State Third Team honors. She is great at putting pressure on defenses and causing turnovers, is a dynamic attacker and is not shy to pull the trigger. She could be a Miss Soccer candidate in 2020.
ISABELLE GILMORE, DeWitt Soph. F: As part of a deep freshman class last season, Gilmore debuted onto the prep scene in fine fashion. The leading scorer for DeWitt, she aided a run to the D-2 Final four and earned All-State First Team status — a rarity as a ninth grade prospect. Gilmore is a great finisher and won’t be sneaking up on anyone this season. She will be a marked player for the rest of her high school tenure.
MIA HANSEN, Brighton Jr. D/M: One of the state’s better defenders, Hansen earned D-1 All-State First Team status last season for a Brighton squad ranked in the top 10. Receiving plenty of attention from D-I and D-II scouts, Hansen is a shutdown defender who is extremely quick and can switch the point of attack with high efficiency. On the club side, she plays with Legends MAFC and was selected an National League-Midwest Conference Premier I Team XI last fall for her efforts.
ELLE HARTJE, Birmingham Detroit Country Day Sr. M: One the state’s top dual-sport athletes, Hartje excels on the ice as a standout hockey player and on the pitch as a dominating midfielder. She is rock solid defensively and a great set-up player on the offensive end. Hartje was D-3 All-State Second Team last year and will play both hockey and soccer at Yale.
AUTUMN KLOHA, Freeland Sr. M/F: A key cog in Freeland’s run to back-to-back D-3 state runner-up finishes and the top talent on a team currently ranked No. 1 in D-3, Kloha is both a great set-up player and finisher. She was All-State First Team last year and has signed with D-II Saginaw Valley State.
MAURA KRUSE, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep Sr. M: A returning D-2 All-State First Team selection, Kruse is still undecided on whether to just attend Michigan or accept an offer to play collegiate soccer elsewhere. She is a dynamic player, taking on players 1-v-1 or setting up others on the attack. Kruse is also dominant in the air. She plays club soccer for Vardar ECNL.
ANNA LEONARD, Birmingham Marian Jr. D: Another high-level player in Marian’s deep lineup, Leonard should find her way onto a college roster in 2020. She is a ball-hawking defender who can distribute out of the back. She garnered All-State Second Team accolades last year for the D-2 state champion Mustangs.
GABRIELLE MCCASLIN, Plymouth Jr. F: McCaslin has posted fine back-to-back campaigns that saw her earn All-KLAA and All-District honors and D-1 All-State Honorable Mention status two years ago for a team that is a mainstay in the top 20. She has built the reputation of being a feared striker and has committed to Mississippi State.
RYLEE MICHAELS, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern Sr. F: Michaels left Midwest United FC Developmental Academy team last March to play high school and was FHE’s gain. She was a finalist for High School Player of the Year at the 1st Annual West Michigan Soccer Awards sponsored by GRFC after garnering D-2 All-State First Team status last year and is considered one of the better prep players in the state. Michaels rang up a single-season school record 36 goals, including nine game-winning goals, with 11 assists last year and holds numerous school records. She entered the year with over 70 career goals and 30 assists and will play for Division I University of Toledo.
CAITLIN MULLEN, Grand Rapids Catholic Central Soph. M/D: Already committed to D-I Indiana State, Mullen was one of Michigan’s top freshmen last spring, leading CC to the D-3 Final Four and earning All-State First Team honors — a rarity in the sport for a ninth-grader.
MARIANA MUSKOVIC, Warren Regina Sr. M: Headed to Central Michigan, Muskovic is the Saddelites’ field general and one of the many reasons why Regina is one of the favorites to win the D-3 state title this spring. She is the engine that makes this team go and aided a deep postseason run last season. Muskovic earned All-State First Team status last spring.
JULIANA PAOLETTI, Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central Sr. F: A member of the Michigan Rush on the club side and a Division 3 All-State choice in basketball, Paoletti racked up 51 goals and 10 assists last season on the soccer pitch — the 13th-highest goals total in state history. She earned D-4 All-State First Team honors in soccer last year.
ISABELLA PARADOSKI, Rochester Stoney Creek Jr. F: Much like her older sibling, Taylor Paradoski, this prospect has committed to D-I Elon University. She is another player whose stock is rising fast. Paradoski is becoming a reliable target up top for one of the state’s better teams.
ALYA PITTS, North Muskegon Sr. D: While North Muskegon reached the D-4 state semifinals and posted a 21-1-0 record behind scoring over 140 goals as a unit, only four teams even scored goals on the Norse defense. Pitts was one of the main reasons why. In fact, North Muskegon yielded only five goals in 22 games last year, a tribute to its lockdown defense and Pitts’ rugged style of play as a lockdown defender.
ELLIE ROGERS Walled Lake Northern Jr. F: Already committed to Michigan State as a sophomore, Rogers is clearly one of Michigan’s premier juniors and complements Wolfe well on the attack. Collecting a combined 30 goals and 30 assists the last two years, Rogers made the leap from D-1 All-State Honorable Mention to All-State First Team honors last year. The Michigan Jaguars club standout is a handful to mark, as she possesses speed and the ability to strike from distance. She consistently causes havoc on the offensive half of the field with her pace and attacking abilities.
PHOEBE SAUNDERS, Spring Lake Jr. M: A three-sport standout, including playing soccer, golf and basketball, Saunders has an impressive resume. She averaged some double figures and led her school in assists in basketball, was the No. 3 golfer for a program that placed third in the state and was the leading assist performer on the soccer pitch. She led Spring Lake to the D-2 regional finals last season, scoring 14 times with 18 assists as a playmaker. Saunders earned All-State Second Team status.
SYDNEY SMITH, Salem Jr. F: A recent commit to Western Michigan, Smith made a huge leap from making D-1 All-State Honorable Mention as a freshman to All-State Second Team as a sophomore. The Rocks’ leading scorer the past two years, Smith also plays for the Michigan Jaguars and is a key player on that side.
MEGAN SOLEK, Rochester Stoney Creek Sr. M: A four-year starter, Solek remains unsigned despite playing for Vardar-ECNL and one of the better prep programs in the state. One of three holdovers from the 2016 D-1 state title team, Solek is a physical player from the central midfield, a great ball-winner who is known to score goals in big games. She also plays basketball and on the pitch earned All-State Second Team accolades last season.
SARA STROUD, Birmingham Marian Sr. D/M: Another returning All-State Second Team honoree for the two-time defending D-2 state champion Mustangs, Stroud locks players down to the point of frustration and is a creative playmaker. Her worth is far more than stats.
JUSTICE TILLOTSON, Rochester Adams Jr. M/F: Tillotson committed to Michigan State during her sophomore year and has done everything to prove worthy of being a future Big Ten player. Last year she helped lead Adams to an OAA Red Division and district title and earned D-1 All-State Third Team accolades by collecting 11 goals and nine assists during a tough schedule. She plays club with Vardar ECNL.
RYLEE VRUGGINK, Hudonsville Unity Christian Jr. M/F: The latest in line of standout players at D-3 powerhouse Unity Christian, Vruggink earned All-State Second Team honors last season and is slated to take over the reigns this year. The two-time all-stater plays club ball for Midwest United FC-Royal.
ASHLEY WARD, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central Sr. F: During a rebuilding year last season, Ward rose to the occasion to help the Rangers win 17 games while notching 28 goals with nine assists. The sniper garnered D-1 All-State Second Team honors.
ELISABETH WARDELL, Midland Sr. F/M: While Midland was one of the state’s top defensive teams last year, Wardell was on the opposite end as one of the state’s most feared strikers. She garnered D-1 All-State First Team honors for a team that finished 18-1-6 and reached the state semifinals. She signed with D-II Winona State.
ABBY WERTHMAN, Livonia Stevenson Jr. F: Werthman had a breakout year last season for the Spartans, collecting 12 goals with18 assists. On the radar of college scouts of different levels of schools, Werthman earned D-1 All-State Second Team last year. She pays club ball for the Michigan Hawks-Black.
ROSIE WISSER, Richland Gull Lake Jr. M: Although she mainly plays attacking midfielder, the younger Wisser can play all over the field and her versatility is valuable to the Blue Devils’ schemes of another Final Four run. Named D-2 All-State Second Team last season, the Kalamazoo Kingdom product collected 11 goals and 25 assists. Several D-I and D-II schools are in pursuit, including Western Michigan, Grand Valley State and Ferris State among others.

TOP GOALKEEPRS
1. MAYA ETIENNE, Midland Sr.: With multiple D-I and D-II offers, Etienne, who plays club ball for the Michigan Jaguars, took a major leap last season and earned All-State Dream Team and D-1 All-State First Team honors. She led Midland to its best season to date with an 18-1-6 record and a Final Four berth. She makes the routine saves and also recorded saves that most high school-aged goalies do not. An absolute steal for a D-II college, Southern Indiana, as Etienne already has eight clean sheets this season.
2. ALLY GAUNT, New Baltimore Anchor Bay Sr.: Anchor Bay must replace its entire defense this year and more than ever Gaunt will have to prove her worth as a leader of a very young team. She has put up stellar numbers in her career and is 36-4-7 the past two years between the pipes. A steal for D-II Saginaw Valley State, she allowed only nine goals for a regional semifinalist team last years and seven goals as a sophomore for a regional finalist squad. She has 32 career shutouts and is a great shoot-stopper, including in penalty kicks shootouts, where she has won four such matches the past two years. Gaunt was All-State Second Team last year and is a three-time All-State performer.
3. MADISON MCKAY, Grand Blanc Sr.: Also a basketball player who converted into goalkeeper a couple of years ago, McKay is a steady performer in the back and with over 40 wins and two state runner-up trophies under her belt, she is reliable as they come. She posted a combined 31 shutouts the past two years and is the type of keeper that rarely makes a mistake. McKay was D-1 All-State third Team last season and has signed with Western Illinois.
4. REBECCA PRZYBYLO, Plymouth Sr.: A three-time All-District and three-time All-KLAA keeper in one of the state’s toughest leagues, Przybylo was All-State Third Team as a sophomore and just missed the cut last season. Highly athletic and a four-year varsity performer in basketball as well, Przybylo controls the goal area with authority and is known to make some acrobatic saves. Playing in one of the state’s toughest leagues, she rarely disappoints. She plays club soccer for the Canton Celtic and signed with Eastern Michigan.
5. MADDIE ALEXANDER, Battle Creek Harper Creek Jr.: Every now and then a player from a non-power school or non-power conference turns some heads on the pitch and Alexander is just that type of player. If people don’t know her by now, they soon will. Alexander has drawn raves of praise as being a technically sound and physically capable player as any and due to her eye-catching athleticism and has drawn heavy interest from D-I college programs around the Midwest. She is also a standout basketball player and on the soccer pitch has led the Beavers to their best two seasons to date. She registered 101 saves in 114 chances (.886 save percentage), posted a 0.65 GAA over 20 games and led her team to a school-best 13 wins last year.
