ROCHESTER, Mich. – Napoleon Outlaw III connected on a second half equalizer form Nebojsa Popovic and Jimmy Todd helping Oakland play Dayton to a 1-1 double overtime draw on Tuesday night at the Oakland Soccer Field.
After Atlantic 10 power Dayton (4-1-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute, Oakland responded immediately when Todd sent a pass to Popovic who flicked the ball through to a cutting Outlaw III who got behind the defense. Flyer keeper Federico Barrios came off his line to cut the down the angle but Outlaw III was able to lift the ball over Barrios’ diving attempt into the back of the net tying the game at 1-1 in the 63rd minute.
Sullivan Lauderdale made a fantastic save off a failed clear attempt to keep the game even in the 67th minute. Three minutes later, Noah Jensen almost put Oakland (4-2-1) ahead as he cut around a defender and fired a shot pass Barrios which hit directly off the last Dayton defender’s face to avoid going into the empty net.
The Golden Grizzlies will play Duquesne on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 3:30 p.m. as the first leg of a doubleheader with the women’s team who follow with a game against Cleveland State at 7 p.m
